A/R: Tempers escalate at Kumasi Abattoir as Butchers Opposes Sariki-Zongo’ s Chief Butcher

Kumasi Abattoir

Concern Butchers of Kumasi Abattoir have expressed a strong disapproval over the unwarranted installation of the Kumasi Chief Butcher.

The ragged butchers say they do not recognise the Kumasi Chief Butcher who was illegally installed last Sunday, October 14, 2019 by Sariki Zongo.

The butchers are a collection of 6 tribes, Asante, Frafra, Dagomba, Hausa, Gao and Grusi.

The leader of the Concern Butchers, Mr. Ibrahim Wahab Tikumah told Newstimesgh.com that, Sariki Zongo together with his group yesterday, October 14, 2019 install a Housa man, Alhaji Muntari Bature as the Kumasi Chief Butcher after the demise of Alhaji Musah BawahTanko, Ex- Chief Butcher who passed on a week ago.

Mr. Ibrahim said, the new Chief Butcher is not the legitimate person to be enthroned.

He said the Hausa are the minority at the Kumasi Abattoir therefore the other 5 majority will never allow themselves to be governed by a Hausa man.

“We do not recognise the new Chief Butcher and we will not allow Sariki Zongo to inflict anyone on us”, he stated.

But, the Hausa tribe stand firm on their decision to maintain the new chief.

Meanwhile, they have called on Government and Asantehene to intervene.

They also demand Sariki Zongo to come out and apologise.

“Sariki Zongo must go On Air, apologise and as well dethrone his chief”, they stated.

What is Likely to happen if the Issue is not Resolved?

A strong battle or riots looks likely to arise at the Kumasi Abattoir if swift measures are not taken to calm down the 5 tribes.

Similar incident erupted in 1986 which saw many of the butchers ended up in jail.

Many of the workers had their hands and legs amputated while several others were butchered and brutalise to the detriment where they sustained serious injuries.

The police arrested and prosecuted some of them.

They were imprisoned 3 months and 4 months respectively.
