A/R: Ten Students Arrested, Teacher injured in KTI Clash

Students vandalised several properties like vehicles, office furniture etc.

Ten students of Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) have been nabbed and one teacher severely injured after a massive chaos erupted between teachers and students of the school last night, October 20, 2019.

Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, ACP Kwaku Boah said, it was reported to him that some teachers of the school instructed a couple of the students to put on a prescribed uniform for the evening studies( preps) .

The students however, resisted the move and it turned into gruesome protest of which a teacher sustained severe injury.

Some students who also narrated the incident explained to Newstimesgh.com that a senior house master in the school allegedly assaulted a form 3 student for using mobile phone on campus.
The teacher gave the student multiple slaps.

“The act infuriated us to retaliate because teachers attack on students were becoming rampant, so we wanted to fight for our freedom”, the students lamented.

Police say several properties such as vehicles, office furniture, glasses and other properties have been demolished.

Other unconfirmed reports suggest that at least 10 students sustained injuries.
However, the intervention of the Police has restored calm in the school.
The 10 protesters are in police custody assisting in further investigations.
