Afigya Kwabere South District Quarry Guards
The Afigya Kwabere South District Assembly has inaugurated guards/ taskforce numbering 21 to take charge of the protection of the district’s Quarry business.
The inauguration came off at Kodie, the district capital on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.
The newly recruits (taskforce) will work in collaboration with the previous recruits numbering about 39 to defend the various quarry sites of the district.
The Ministry of Local Government couple of months ago issued out ultimatum to the various quarry districts to appoint a committee to manage and protect quarry production in the country.
According to the District Chief Executive [DCE] of Afigya Kwabere South, Mr Christian Adu Poku known popularly as ACP, the Assembly saw it necessary to introduce what is called Quarry Development Fund which aims collecting revenues to developing the district.
In order to accomplish the goal the assembly has mandated the guards to move into the quarry buffer zones and consequently prevent people’s encroachments.
“We have recruited the guards to protect the various quarry buffer zones so that we can generate some revenue from the business to develop Afigya Kwabere South. We have permitted them to prevent people from encroaching the quarry sites”, the DCE said.
On the other hand, the Northern Sector Quarry Association Chairman, Mr Adu Tutu advised the newly recruits to work effectively for the assembly.
He said they must act in accordance with the Assembly’s orders.
He stated again that the guards must all refrain from bribery and corruption since that could impact their dismissals.
