Mr. Dominic Senyo Yahesu
The Assembly Member for Torgodo Electoral Area in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, Mr. Dominic Senyo Yahesu has said assembly members in Ghana deserve to be given monthly salaries.
He believes that would motivate them to work effectively at the grassroots for the government in power.
“Government needs to focus much attention on assembly members because every development starts at the grassroots, so if government pays us monthly, I think it will motivate most of us to work very hard”, Mr. Dominic Senyo Yahesu told Newstimesgh.com
The Torgodo Assembly Member further stated that the performance of most Assembly members are almost equivalent to MPs therefore their efforts must be recognized with monthly wages.
He reiterated that electorates have confidence in their assembly members than other politicians, for instance Ministers, MPs and MMDCEs therefore it is about time assembly members across the country are enrolled on Accountant General’s Pay Roll.
Dominic Senyo Yahesu disclosed that many constituents invariably worry assembly members with their personal problems; meanwhile they do not receive grants or salaries from government.
“People disturb us with their problems but we are non-salary workers, we cannot meet their financial needs, should government give us salaries, we can help them whenever they approach us”, he fumed.
He suggested that government can pay via the Consolidated Fund, adding that Parliament should enact a law to back that fund.
