Bibiai Assembly Members Bear Teeth At Minister Over Reduction Of Ex-Gratia

Assembly Members

More than 52 Assembly Members of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly in the Western North Region, have register their displeasure against the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Madam Hajia Alima Mahama following her directives to pay One Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHS1500) as their ex-gratia instead of Four Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS4000) for each Assembly Member, as it was agreed in their last Assembly Meeting.

The Assembly Members say GHS 1500 is an insult for them to take home as their ex-gratia after working for four good years.
They have assisted in many diverse ways apart from attending the normal Assembly Meetings.

They have attended several sub- committee meetings to take decisions for the Assembly, supporting the Assembly in raising its internally generated funds (IGF), organising communal labour, granting bails for their people, serve as a security watch dog, resolving broken marriages, carrying death bodies on streets, evacuation of lunatic on streets, attending public functions with their own money due to the positions held in their respective communities so as to ensure peace and harmony among the people.

‘’We will never accept this (GHS1500) as ex-gratia after serving for four years”, they declared .

The aggrieved Assembly Members are therefore, appealing to the Local Government Minister to reconsider her decision to going contrary to the agreed budget.
She should consider also their additional duties in the society and as a result endorse the initial budget of GHS4,000 for the Assembly Members.

The situation also compelled, Madam Leticia Asante, the Assembly Member of Bibiani Lineso Electoral Area to plead on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to use his good office to intervene on their behalf in order to attract people to partake in the District Assemblies Elections come December.

They disclosed this to the press at Bibiani on Thursday October 17, 2019.
