Coronavirus disinfection: over 300 markets in Ashanti to shutdown on Friday

As part of measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the country, markets in Ahanti Region would be closed down on Friday 27 March 2020 for a fumigation exercise.

The fumigation exercise according to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei Mensah will get rid of any looming infection in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The exercise will take place in the 43 administrative districts of the region including Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly
Asokore Mampong,Asokwa,Kwadaso,Old Tafo, Suame, Oforikrom among other municipalities.

“No business is going to take place tomorrow. Security agaencies are going to takeover the markets by 6pm today, Thursday March, 26, 2020”, the Mayor for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Osei Asibey said at a press conference.

For this reason, traders are supposed to lock up their shops on Thursday evening and are not supposed to venture the market on the day for the exercise until Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Children are advised to stay away from the market areas during the period of fumigation.

Ghana has do far recorded 132 cases of COVID-19 with 4 deaths.
