COVID-19: “Nana Addo’s Food is solely reserved for the Poor” – Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei Mensah has said, President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo’s food items distribution is only targeting the poor who cannot afford to buy food substance in this era of a partial lockdown in some parts of the country.

President Nana Akufo-Addo announced on Sunday when he addressed the nation to update Ghanaians on some measures being taken by the government in the fight of the pandemic. He admitted the hardship the situation has brought on the majority of Ghanaians adding that there was however the need for the provision of “food packages and hot meals” to enable poor households to minimise their vulnerability.

Speaking on Nhyira FM in Kumasi, monitored by Newstimesgh.com reporter Joe Marfo, the Ashanti Regional Minister said “President Nana Addo’s food is not for everyone but it’s reserved solely for the poor in our communities”.

“It would be criminal for us as individuals who can buy provisions for our living to go for the food items whilst we could have reserved it for people (poor) who had died of hunger. Let’s leave it to the poor to also enjoy”, he stated.

He revealed that more than hundred thousand (100,000) foodstuff are ready to be distributed in the Ashanti Region (Lockdown districts).

The minister has entreated the distributors and beneficiaries to observe all the protocols under COVID-19 at the allocation centres.
