The multi – million Kumasi Sofoline interchange has now turned in to a haven for weed smokers and squatters as well as hardened criminals.
This portal’s reporter visited the scene and reported that the project which was started by former President John Agyekum Kuffour’s administration in 2008, amid to ease vehicular traffic jam on the Kumasi to Abuakwa stretch and further serve other areas is now turning into a white elephant.
The overpass has become a dwelling place for weed smokers, squatters and criminals who rob pedestrians of their belongings at gunpoint.
It would be sad to note that people also defecate openly under the interchange, a situation which has become unbearable to the people who uses those route to their various home’s and working places.
When the Assembly member for South Suntreso in the Nhyiaso Constituency of the Ashanti Region Mr.Kwame Asafo Agyei was contacted, he explained that he has on several occasions written to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly(KMA) via the Environmental Sub-Committee of the Nhyiaso Constituency but yet to receive support.
” I’ve written series of applications to the KMA, they came to inspect the place but nothing has been done to drive away those criminals away.”
He called on authorities of KMA and the Ashanti Regional Police Command to come to their aid by rolling out strategies to abduct criminals.
