Ejisu Wetland filled with soil by unknown individual
Some concerned residents of Ejisu in the Ashanti Region have raised serious concerns about the illegal Wetland filling ongoing between Ejisuand Besease.
The residents believe authorities of Ejisu Municipal Assembly [EMA] have deliberately overlooked the illegal activity to persist.
The residents have alleged also that the assembly might have sold to certain individuals to unlawfully erect a building hence the lookdown.
The swampy land over the years has been reserved in fulfilment of the laws of Ghanathat prohibits the construction of a building on a wetland in Ghana.
It has as well served as a farming land for rice plantation for the people of Ejisu and its environs.
“As of now farmers have grown a large rice plantation on the land but an unidentified individual has despised the farm plantation to filling the wetland on night hours”, some residents told Newstimesgh.com .
They saidthe illegal work began in about 8 years ago when Yamoah Ponkoh was in office as the Municipal Chief Executive [MCE] of EJMA but he halted the illegality.
The landfill according to the residents has mostly causedmassive floodingin rainy seasons.
They believe it could bring about strong disaster should the activity continue to move on.
Subsequently, they have dared the incumbent MCE of EMA, Madam Serwaah Derkyi and NADMO to take action or else they [concerned residents] will do it themselves.
