A renowned large scale timber industry in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Logs & Lumber Limited (LLL) has said the Green Ghana Project should also involve the various surviving timber companies in the country currently.
The representative personnel, in the person of Alfred Baku (Assistant Certification Manager) said, involving the industry will go a long way to better the agenda of the Green Ghana Project in entirety.
According to him, well established timber companies have concessions that have been depleted by illegal chainsaw activities and that those reserves could be brought into this project to help raised tree stands in this hitherto degraded natural forest reserves.
He said, the Green Ghana initiative he believes is basically, focused on recreational purposes looking at its objectives of and some of the species involved, coupled with economic values to creating job among other things.
The Manager further stated that his firm, LLL is already in the plantation exercises therefore if they were included in the initiative, it would have increased their capacity to raise more areas and which would be well monitored to meet the goal of the Green Ghana initiative.
Perhaps, there’s no error in going back to involve timbers industries in the Green Ghana Project, he said. In this regard, the outfit responsible for the implementation of this project could support timber firms with viable seeds or seedlings to raise even more economic tree stands in those depleted forest reserves.
He said, once the inputs, viable seeds or seedlings, are given, the depleted forest reserves will be raised and hence will become accountable to support whatsoever received, he assured.
