GSS to recruit 70K workers for population census – Regional Statistician

Ashanti Regional statistician, Kobina Abaka Ansah,

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has apt plans to recruit a little over 70,000 Supervisors and Enumerators across the country to conduct 2020 Population and Housing Census (PHC).

Although recruitment process is ongoing via internet, 16,358 people have applied so far in the Ashanti Region alone as at Monday, 13 January 2020.

Regional statistician, Kobina Abaka Ansah, disclosed to Newstimesgh.com that GSS is expected to train 16,512 qualified applicants, after which 12,356 Enumerators and Supervisors would be selected to embark on the exercise at 10,591 enumeration areas in the 47 census districts in the region.

He said after the online recruitment, applicants will be assigned to the various district Assemblies.

He continued that most of the applicants are likely to be assigned to communities within the districts they reside to curb accommodation and transportation challenges; which have been cited as a factor that could contribute to shoddy work.

Mr Abaka appealed to all Ghanaians to cooperate with the enumerators when the impending population census begin.
