Former Assembly Member for Besease -Jamasi in the Ejisu Municipal of Ashanti Region has asked chiefs and leaders of various communities to induct Volunteer Security Guards to fight against rampant crimes in the country.
The ex assembly member, Mr Samuel Danquah who is popularly known as Hon SS suggestion’s surfaces as a result of the recent countless manslaughter and robbery attacks in Ghana.
According to him, the scarcity of the police is a contributory factor to the rise of such transgressions.
The only way such monstrous crimes could be curbed is to institute various volunteer security guards to patrol the communities in which they have been assigned, to work every day and night.
He told NewstimesGh.com that, although it’s quite expensive to keep the volunteer security guards functioning, however, the safety of the people is also very crucial.
Honorable SS advocate that, the government of Ghana should equip the police with more modern resources to fight against criminalities in the country.
He added that the government should freely authorize the Ghana Police to recruit more competent people rather than party members into the police service.
Because the more the police are recruited on partisan approach, the more crime rate increases since most of them are not ready to sacrifice themselves for the country.
He further pleaded with the Service to do a thorough background investigation of every individual to find out if he or she does not have any criminal record before they are recruited to the police service.
