More than 400 staff of the Information Services Department (ISD) across the country, who were employed into the service under the ranked of Journalist and Senior Information Assistant are furious for not enjoying a single promotion for 12 years now.
The situation has compelled most staff to look up for other alternative where the welfare of workers are paramount after working for eight 8 years for the department.
Other staff who were with the hope for better conditions of service after the departure of their colleagues have still not seen anything positive.
These staff now feel cheated for working in the government since 2007 (12 years) without a single promotion whiles their mates in other Sectors, Departments and Agencies with the same requirement and responsibility are enjoying promotions every four years without a delay.
The staff who spoke in anonymity hinted their wrath against head office for their inability to fight for the staff welfare in the service.
Adding that, our patience are exhausted, this is against labour law in Ghana, we are suffering, and we can no long entertain this unbearable and hardship condition of service any more.
The most unfortunate thing is that, most of these officers normally depend on over draft to survive.
They stated that, ‘we are law abiding staff, so we don’t want to wash our dirty linen in public’.
The aggrieved staff said, several efforts and petitions to head office regarding to their promotions had yielded no positive results.
They also disclosed to the Daily Dispatch that, even lower ranks under them such as Cinema Commentators and secretaries have risen above them in terms of salary.
They are therefore, appealing to Information Minister, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and the Acting Director of Information Services Department to treat it as a matter of urgency so as to avert any demonstration to attract media attention and public bashing.
