KNUST opens up on Investors for Assistance

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Population is vastly growing at top pace.
This, as a result, has ended almost half of the population or learners living in the outskirts of the school due to inadequate hostel facilities.

Authorities say Private Entities must assist to establish a lot of hostel facilities on campus in order accommodate the fast-rising population.
Dr. Daniel Bekoe, PRO of KNUST on Radio Ghana’s Behind the News on September 4, 2019, said the University Management expects Private Individuals or investors to invest more on hostel facilities on campus.

He declared that the finances of the University cannot establish hostel facilities because “there are other things we are working on in terms of classrooms, teaching-learning materials plus other relevant things”.

Meanwhile, population of the University unexpectedly keeps on escalating every year and this has made it cumbersome to contain many students on campus.

Last year alone, the University admitted close to 17,000 first year students but only 9000 got opportunity to stay on campus as a result of the scarce hostel facilities.

Female population keeps on rising at fast pace, “now from 20% to 40%”, he said.
The University is more anxious on females because “these young ladies have more challenges, they are more vulnerable than men, so the decision has been to give a little balance to the females”, he said.

He mentioned again that since the hostel facilities on campus are insufficient, the University Management is open for any arrangements from any private individual including even the Alumnae” to invest in hostel accommodation on campus.
