GETFund Projects Left to Rot at Kona
The ruling party of Ghana ,the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has left two major educational projects under the construction of the Ghana Education Trust Fund, (GETFund) to rot at Kona in the Sekeyere South district of the Ashanti Region.
Construction of the various GETFund projects in the community including a six unit classroom block started in 2007 under the former president Agyekum Kuffour’s administration.
The projects which reached the climax of its completion have been left to rot for about 13 years now.
Another six unit classroom block GETFund project in the same community according to authorities which was started in 2016 under the Former president John Mahama’s regime have also been neglected completely by government.
Reports suggest that over 300 students have been displaced as a result of the failure on the part of the government to complete the projects.
However, the completion of the GETFund projects would bring huge relief to the school as there’s enormous pressure on the few facilities but weak facilities available.
Authorities in the community have followed due processes to get the structures on track but all efforts have been in vain.
The immediate past local council chairman Mr Isaac Oheneba Akwabka told this portal that “although the local council committee have followed up to the GETFund office at the national level for the completion of the projects, there are no signs that construction works would re-start anytime soon”.
The assembly member of area Mr Amoako on the other hand described the situation as worrying but stated the community needs the abandoned projects badly. As a result government of Ghana must endeavour to finish it in no time.
