More than 40 polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asante Akyem South constituency of the Ashanti Region have been suspended indefinitely.
The executives were suspended on the basis of supporting one, William Yamoah, a parliamentary aspirant also former President of the National Union of Ghana Students.
The suspended executives have accused their MP, Asante Boateng of instigating the move.
Mr Felix Kyei, a victim, polling station Chairman at Muramura R/C JHS said, he believe it is a deliberate ploy by the MP to sabotage them.
“Our MP has not used his influence to bring any development to this area. In fact, he has not used his portion of the MP’s common fund to bring development to his constituents. I believe he is hundred percent behind our suspension”, Mr Kyei alleged.
Another suspended polling station executive, Nana Ofori Amanfo who until his suspension was the NPP Polling station chairman at Chempo D/A Primary was shocked at the decision by the disciplinary Committee of the Asante Akyem South constituency.
“My suspension is uncalled for. I’m not a supporter of the aspirants, Mr Williams Yamoah and Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour. I don’t know them, I can’t even recognize any if we walked past each other.”
The polling station executives have called on the party to rescind the decision.
