OTMA: PWDs 49 Accumulate Over GHC 80,000 Common Fund and 55 Tertiary Students Receive Scholarship

Persons With Disabilities

Old Tafo Municipal Assembly (OTMA) in the Ashanti Region has supported 49 Persons With Disabilities(PWDs) with GHC 80,600.00, from the Assembly’s Common Fund to improve upon their standards of living.

A total number of 26 females and 23 males have been supported. This according to the Municipal Chief Executive of OTMA, Fred Obeng Owusu.

An amount of 87,031.00 has also been released as scholarship to 55 tertiary students to pursue their education.

Mr Fred Obeng Owusu, Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) made the declaration during OTMA Meet the Press held at Old Tafo, the Municipal capital.

LEAP Beneficiaries
The MCE said GHC 19,275.78 has been disbursed on 55 beneficiaries as part of Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) allowance as of October, 2019.

Free SHS
He further explained that, the Free Senior High School(SHS) is vigorously being implemented in the 3 SHS in the Municipality, namely OKESS, Uthmania SHS and Alzaria SHS.

NABCO

The MCE said, a total of 419 Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) have been trained and posted to various departments in the municipality.

Physical projects

On physical projects, he said the Assembly has executed numerous projects since its inception, these projects include Storm drain at Tafo 4 miles,culvert bridge at Adompom-Estate, 2 km asphaltic overlay at Ahenbronum inner roads, 2km asphaltic overlay from Kodua to F- lane, then AshFM to Moshie Zongo and construction of new Methodist park which is yet to be commissioned.

Under IPEP

Under Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program, the Assembly constructed 1 no.10 seater institutional toilets with mechanized borehole at OKESS, TAPASS and Tafo M/A and 10 other boreholes within the OTMA.
Again, the Assembly has supplied 600 dual desk to basic schools, spot improvement of selected roads in the municipality.
It has constructed 1 no. 10 solar power mechanized borehole at the 3 SHS in the municipality.

Proceeding DACF Projects
A construction of 18-unit classroom block at Tapass A, maintenance of 830 street lights, 200 led street light bulbs and accessories under the District Assembly Common Fund( DACF).

The Assembly is set to supply 400No. Dual desk and 100No. Kindergarten round tables with 600 chairs.

A construction of Storm drain at Tafo Nhyiaeso, dredging of drains or rivers, construction of 8No. Metal footbridges and renovation of M/A KG block at Tafo Ahenbronum are all ongoing.

On-going GETFUND Projects
A no.3 6- Unit classroom block at Tapass, Pankrono R/C school, Tafo Methodist school, OKESS library, 2 boys dormitories at OKESS( 90% done) and a 1no.6- unit classroom block and ancillary at Pankrono R/C school are on the pipe line.

GSCSP
Under the scope of Ghana Secondary City Support Program (GSCSP), bitumen re-surfacing of 4km, with 6km 600 meters diameter covered U-Drains and 48 meters length pipe culvert, 4km length 6 meter wide pavement bricks pedestrian lane with 35no.150 watts Led street lights are underway, the MCE hinted.

Planting for Food and Job
The MCE, hinted again that the Municipal Department of Agriculture has trained an undisclosed number of prospective farmers who are desirous in engaging in full time farming.
