A political group, Ashanti Youth Caucaus of New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called on President Akufo-Addo to sack Madam Theresa Addison, the Director of Arts and Culture at the Presidency from office with immediate effect.
This, according to the group will go a long way to clear President’s name that he was part of the planned work to use Theresa Addison to project Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia as part of attempts to impose him (Bawumia) as the NPP flagbearer for 2024 elections which is apparently against the Constitution of the Party.
The group’s call is in relation to Madam Theresa Addison’s public declaration of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as next flagbearer for NPP in 2024 elections at late Amoako Tuffuor and Sir John’s funeral some days ago.
The appeal to Nana Addo to sack Theresa Addison even though, she has rendered an apology according to the group, will serve as deterrent to others apart from saving NPP from public ridicule ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with NewstimesGh.com yesterday in Kumasi, executives of Ashanti Youth Caucus of NPP, Abena Tiwaah (PRO) Abena Adwebi (organiser) and Akosua Afreh (Vice President) expressed serious worry about the conduct of Theresa Addison when she was given opportunity to announce the contributions of Presidency and President Akufo-Addo’s towards late Sir John’s final funeral rites at Sakaro-Owoo in the Ashanti region.
According to them, despite her action which has potency to breed indiscipline and disunity among the rank and file of the party, the party’s leadership and the Presidency have been silent and reluctant to condemn the irresponsible statement.
The group maintained that, the Director of Arts & Culture attitude is intended to bring division or disunity among the party rank and file in attempt to break the 8 years jinx which the party is aiming at.
The PRO Abena Tiwah underlined that “NPP is known as a party that believes in democracy, so there is no way one or two people will be allowed to choose the next leaders of the party without going through free & fair election.
“The incident happened in the presence of all party top hierarchies but they have failed to condemn her so far. And for grassroots supporters of the party, our leaders’ failure to condemn her comments “shows that silence mean concern”.
The group however, threatened that if their grievances are not addressed by the President, they will stage a big demonstration against president Akufo -Addo and the NPP Party leadership.”
“All we need from President Akufo-Addo is to sack Theresah Addison. If he fails to consider our call, we’ll stage a big demonstration against our own party (NPP),” the statement of Abena Tiwah.
