The President for National House of Chiefs (NHC), Mr. Togbe Afede has said the over burdened corruption in Ghana has steadied the growth and prosperity of the nation.
“Corruption is a key stumbling block to our progress”, the statement of Mr. Togbe Afede on ‘Ghana Beyond Aid Charter and Strategy Document’ presentation to the NHC by Ghana Beyond Aid Committee in Kumasi, on September 26, 2019.
He said developed nations outlined proper mechanisms of eliminating the canker. The citizens, leaders all assisted in its fight.
However, Ghana’s approach to fighting corruption is not properly structured because “we are not demonstrating commitment to fight against corruption.”
Mr. Afede stated that, there is a clear evidence of corruption in Ghana but the law enforcement agencies are failing to enforce them on culprits. That is why; “we an not fund our schools, we can not build our health centers, we can’t construct our roads. That’s why even this house (NHC)it can’t be funded to meet regularly.”
The NHC President maintained that it is the responsibility of the NHC to help fight and kill corruption in order for the country to prosper.
He added that, corruption is a serious menace to every nation’s smooth growth and therefore it is about time every citizen assisted to combating the canker.
“Let’s Kill corruption before it kills us”. Mr. Togbe Afede entreated.
He pledged that the NHC is on course to fighting against corruption.
Subsequently, the law enforcement agencies must also work hard to prosecute culprits and that it will deter everyone from indulging in the menace.
