Some supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Asante Bekwai in the Ashanti region have threatened to vote out the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Joseph Osei Owusu [Joe Wise] for and Independent candidate if issues regarding forms for parliamentary primaries remain unsettled.
Leader of the group, Nana Kwabena expressed ill feelings about the shortage of NPP parliamentary forms and the mode at which executives in the constituency want to deny certain individuals from picking the nomination forms.
He believes that the actions of the party executives is geared towards making Joe Wise go unopposed as the executives of the Ashanti region indicated earlier.
He enquired wether the party’s constitution regarding elections has immensely changed.
“I think the executives want someone to go unopposed this year because some people are denied off the forms”, he said.
“Although the Bekwai NPP executives have admonished that 3 candidates have picked up the nomination forms but the truth of the issue is that no knows those candidates”.
“Meanwhile, 8 people have expressed interest in the seat but only three people have been given permission to pick the forms; on whose authority are members suitable for forms determined?” He asked.
The NPP Chairman for Asante Bekwai Mr Patrick Adu Gyamfi has said on Angel FM in Kumasi that 3 candidates bought the forms which he had at his residence [house] but the supporters have questioned if the scarcity is a deliberate attempt to prevent some party members from picking forms to compete Joe Wise.
The infuriated supporters told Newstimesgh.com reporter Joe Marfo that “Joseph Osei Owusu has failed in his duty as Member of Parliament so we will uproot him like Cassava with our kokromoti power in December 2020 and bring on Lawyer Kwasi Agyemang Amofa [one candidate who has expressed interest in contesting Joe Wise] should he go independent.
